Conversion History

PICTURES OF THE CONVERSION:

It used to look like this...

...now it looks like this. As you can see, the bulkhead, cabinet and stretchers are removed. A cooker, fridge and sink are fitted, and some drawers. See below for more....

The 'view from the bridge':

On the left are the gear lever (black knob) and transfer lever (red knob). To the right of the gear levers is the handbrake. Between them, you may be able to make out the diff lock knob, hand throttle and heater controls. Above them, to the left of the steering wheel, are the brake and clutch fluid reservoirs.

This frame gives a running log of the conversion from an ambulance to a camper.

11/00 Decisions made on conversion seating and bed arrangements (thanks to those browsers who made suggestions).
Front seats replaced with comfy ones.
Inertia reel seatbelts fitted to front seats.
2/01 Started to pull the back to bits!
Dividing wall at the back of the cab and cabinet removed, interior lights re-wired to give dim/bright and switching at front and back.
Upper stretcher carriers and elevating gear removed.
Top storage racks removed.
3/01 Last bits of compressed air equipment removed (high pressure tank and last pipes).
7/01 Proper planning gets under way. Wiring tidied. Rejigged interior light wiring again so that ordinary domestic switches would work.
9/01 Finally figured out how to take the elevating screws out. Also took out the seat base extensions and the lower stretched racks. Now LOADS more room inside!
4/02 Been doing lots on the engine and so on, so there's been a lag in the conversion. However, now got the rear doors sorted out - click here for pics.
5/02 Planning completed. Cooker and fridge bought and ready to install. Side walls (interior) re-lines with nice, smooth hardboard!
6/02 Wiring sorted out (finally), and mains and 12V 'first fix' (ie cabling laid) completed.
8/02 Cooker and sink fitted
7/02 Fridge fitted
