This is Ian's page
By day, I work in the Faculty of Education and Society at the University of Sunderland. The Faculty has about 12,000 students. Some of them are training to become teachers and the School also has lots of other programmes, including English, history, politics, sociology, social work, modern langauges and loads of other related subjects. Combined Subjects, extra-mural and part time programmes are also run by the Faculty. I lecture on the bits of teacher training like theories of teaching and learning, assessment, classroom management and so on. I'm Professor of Higher Education and I'm also Associate Dean and head of research, external engagement and resources. My main research interests are Web-based Learning, Competence-based assessment in Higher Education, Quality Assurance and Enhancement in Compulsory and Higher Education and more recently Management of HE. The right-hand pic above is of me with Lord Puttnam, the film producer (Chariots of Fire, Midnight Express, Local Hero etc etc), who has recently retired as the University's Chancellor. I am a Magistrate, which is an exciting use of my "spare" time. I recently found an old photograph of me from University days - click here for a laugh! And if you want a REAL laugh - you need to know that in June 2007 I took up playing the electric guitar (well, I'm in my 50s, but can't afford a sports car)! I've committed something for you to hear (or should that read "I should be committed for letting you hear this"?) - anyway see the link below for what I have done so far. Click for Ian
