At home I enjoy all the stuff of families and friends, both new found and long-standing. I look forward to my days at home and the times I have looking after my family and being looked after in return. There's lots to organise and many mundane activities to perform that are essential to our lives, but it all turns into great fun with smiles, jokes, love and cuddles between us. I spend time at the gym - I need to maintain a certain level of fitness to keep up with our gallop through the weeks and months! And I am learning to bellydance. This helps with fitness and also enhances my self-esteem and helps me take a step beyond my comfort zone. This part of myself has been neglected at various times in my life, but just now it is being polished up to be put out on show! My eccentricity (apart, of course, from the bellydancing), is that the two vehicles that I drive mostly are a Land Rover Series III and a Honda Hornet 600 cc motorbike. I have had the Land Rover for several years now. I love sitting up high and watching the other vehicles overtake me! I can do the gears, and even switch to low box, and I can manage without brakes, but only to take it up to the garage! Also, I can diagnose most of the frequent faults and problems from the exhaust blowing and a spent clutch to worn wheel bearings. Recently I have learnt to recognise a transfer box problem too! The motorbike is a more recent thing, and I got it to get round the Newcastle traffic and car parking problems. I had to take a special course to be able to go straight to riding a 'big bike' (ie bigger than 125cc), and I passed my test first time! It's great being able to weave round the motorway traffic when it snarls up, and parking is easy. The other part of my life concerns work and my career. I believe in education and have never worked in any other field. I started out at the frontier of knowledge in research, went on to teaching and helping children to learn and then switched to administration and management which, I believe, makes the best use of my talents. I have worked in Higher Education administration and management for over ten years now and currently, I am Assistant Registrar at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. To summarise, there are three strands to my life. I am very pleased to be a mother and very proud of our daughter and all that she has and will achieve. I am cheered by the fact that my career affords me opportunities to assist in pushing back the boundaries of our knowledge and understanding to improve the quality of our lives and support the education of others. But most of all, I am heartened and intensely proud of my long and loving partnership and friendship with Ian. Further links:
